Isle-aux-Allumettes, Sunday May 22, 2005
Another beautiful day of cycling in the Pontiac…
For a fifth consecutive year, this year’s Tour de l’Isle-aux-Allumettes was another resounding success for cyclists, from beginner to pro. More than 160 participants enjoyed this popular yearly event, despite some uncertain but finally fairly nice weather.
Organized every 3rd Sunday of May by the Municipality of Allumette Island Tourism Committee (MAITC), the ”Tour de l’Isle” is a perfect way of discovering the beautiful country landscape of this Pontiac island in a safe and pleasurable environment.
The event was also the perfect occasion to celebrate the completion of the PPJ Cycloparc between l’Isle-aux-Allumettes and the Ontario border. Mayor Denzil Spence, MRC Warden Michael McCrank and CDE president Jack Graham and other local personalities were on hand for the unveiling of a plaque of recognition for the citizens of the Island who donated a part of their land for the completion of this grand project and thereby generously contributed to their community.
The Chapeau and Chichester Fiddlers were a welcome addition to this year’s event, entertaining participants during the breakfast. The Allumette Island artists’ association, Exposition d’Art, also presented some of their art work during the official launch of their 2005 Studio Tour Season.
What a great way to kick off the cycling season in the Pontiac!
