PPJ’s bicycle trail

        

We have put together a bicycle trail and a nature park and created the first Cyclopark. This will allow you to discover the Pontiac region with peace of mind and appreciate the riches of our fauna and flora, unique in the province of Québec.

The characteristics

PPJ’s trail is distinguished by a quite flat relief. Indeed the slopes of the trail don't go over 4 %. The surface is new between Wyman and Fort Coulonge. The trail is pleasant and easilywith easy access for the whole family. Cars and other motor vehicles are not permitted to travel on this trail for your safety and welfare. From the bicycle trail, we propose you make circuits which will allow you to discover the region, its curiosities and attractions. During the season, various activities such as the observation of nature, berries picking etc. will add to the pleasure of your trip.

Landscapes of the Pontiac

The bicycle trail PPJ winds between the Ottawa River and the Laurentian plateau. It allows you to discover all the facet of the Pontiac region.

From Wyman, you can see a far distance to the Ottawa River. You cross an important agricultural area in  the vicinity of Shawville, followed by beautiful wooden valleys and an extensive, traditional breeding area. These often undulating landscapes offer panoramic views of rural scenery. At Campbell’s Bay, the landscape changes and the last 30 kilometres are distinguished by a damp environment with many forests, situated near the Ottawa River. You will have beautiful views of the Ottawa River, and between Fort Coulonge and Waltham, you will ride along a broadening of the River called the Coulonge Lake where numerous beaches await you.

Tour description

To allow to you discover the Cyclopark easier, we have divided the tour into four parts. Each part has its attractions and its particular charm.

Wyman to Shawville 17,26 km. Rural walking

Shawville to Campbell’s Bay 18 km. Damp areas and valleys

Campbell’s Bay to Fort Coulonge 17,7 km. Prairie and forest

Fort Coulonge to Waltham 18 km. The Ottawa River

L'Îles-aux-Allumettes 19.7 km.  Allumettes Island

Equipment

To give you a maximum of comfort in the Cyclopark’s discovery, we are busy setting up three different and complementary areas of equal distances. Each of these areas will be represented by a different icon. By clicking on the icon, you will find a description of the area and its equipment. The construction of the Cyclopark’s equipment spreads out over 3 years between 1998 and 2000. The interpretation area will be on the trail by the summer 1998, the installation of service and the rest areas will be finished in the next two years.

Services

Following the Cyclopark from Bristol to Waltham, you will be welcome in the towns and villages you pass through. There you will find services as well as lodging restaurants and places to buy or rent sports equipment. We can provide a list with phone numbers for lodging. For the other services, we only tell you where they are without giving any other details.

Discovery

For all curious travelers, the Pontiac offers numerous possibilities for discoveries about nature, culture and heritage of the region. For each towns, you will find some discovery ideas.

Festivities

Each year there are local, regional or even national fairs in the villages situated near the Cyclopark. You will find all the details in the special item which relates to these festivities.
