PPJ Cycloparc, winner of the "mérite
plein air" at the 2004 "Loisir Outaouais Gala" |
|
|
Campbell's
Bay, June 4th, 2004
By Isabelle de Bruyn (Pontiac CLD)
"Cycle through Pontiac
County between the shores of the Ottawa River and the hills of the
Laurentian Shield along our 90 km bicycle path"…
… A short sentence that made its way to the
14th edition of the Loisir Outaouais Gala at the Maison du citoyen
in Gatineau last Thursday June 3, 2004.
A true recreation and tourism asset of the Pontiac MRC, the PPJ
Cycloparc seduced the jury and won the "Mérite Plein Air" award.
Attended by some 300 guests from the Outaouais region enthusiastic
about sport and leisure activities, this annual event organized
with the usual talent of the Unité régionale du loisir et du sport
de l’Outaouais (URLSO) this year awarded more than 15 prizes and
granted numerous scholarships to outstanding athletes of our
region.
The regional media present- le Droit (daily newspaper) as an
official Gala partner and Canal Vox representing TV broadcast -
provided a wide coverage for the Pontiac bicycle path.
The PPJ Cycloparc was built on the old railway from Wyman to
Watham and on the edge of a municipal road on Allumette Island.
The bicycle path offers a totally natural and beautiful route.
Ideally located close to Gatineau, accessible from May to November
according to weather conditions, the PPJ Cycloparc is the perfect
destination for cycling tourists who will have the opportunity to
discover Pontiac’s nature, heritage and charming sceneries.
Another asset of the PPJ Cycloparc is the annual Tour de l’Isle, a
family event organized by the Municipality of Allumette Island
Tourism Committee on the long weekend of May. The 2004 edition was
a great success with more than 100 "weekend cyclists" who rode
across Allumette Island on routes varying from 18 to 65 Km.
The Economic Development Corporation (CDE) Pontiac is the body in
charge of the bicycle path maintenance. Its president, Mr Jack
Graham, accompanied by Evelyn Culleton representing MAITC and
Isabelle de Bruyn, Tourism Development Officer at the Pontiac CLD,
proudly went on stage to receive this prestigious award giving
recognition and acclaim to the PPJ Cycloparc at the regional
level.
Another great success for the Pontiac
County!
The Pontiac Local Development Centre (CLD) is very active in local
development projects for the Pontiac MRC and is also involved in
the promotion and development of the PPJ Cycloparc.
